Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend The Jewish Sports Hall of Fame of Western Pennsylvania for its efforts to promote and recognize Jewish athletes, past and present; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, May 16, 2010, to be “JEWISH SPORTS HALL OF FAME DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Jewish Sports Hall of Fame of Western Pennsylvania is a local organization, founded in 1982, whose mission is to financially support Jewish related sports programs in Western Pennsylvania and in Israel and to find Jewish men and women with connections to Western Pennsylvania who have achieved a high level in athletic competition , or with prestigious careers that are closely related to the sports field, and to honor them with induction into the Western PA Jewish Sports Hall of Fame ; and,
 
WHEREAS, this year, The Jewish Sports Hall of Fame will induct  Howard Elson, D.M.D. for Baseball, Yram Groff, M.D. for Basketball and Isadora Silk for Special Olympics Bowling into the ranks of accomplished Jewish Western PA athletes; and,                            
 
WHEREAS, The Jewish Sports Hall of Fame will present the Ziggy Kahn Memorial Award to Jeff Rosenthal which is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the children of our community ; and,
 
WHEREAS, The Jewish Sports Hall of Fame will present the Manny Gold Humanitarian Award named in memory of one of the founders of The Jewish Sports Hall of Fame of Western PA to Sonny Vaccaro for his philanthropic efforts and concerns for the less fortunate and for founding the Dapper Dan Roundball Classic, working with high school and college athletes; and,
 
WHEREAS, The Jewish Sports Hall of Fame will recognize 26 local area Jewish high school seniors for their accomplishments on and off the field with the 2010 Nathan H. Kaufmann Scholastic Awards; and,
