Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Larry Foote for offering help, hope and healing to families who have suffered traumatic losses and for his contribution to the youth in the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, May 7, 2010 , to be “ LARRY FOOTE DAY ” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Larry Foote, a native of Detroit and a  graduate of the University of Michigan, was drafted in 2002 in the 4th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers  and for the next seven years was a team leader, respected by his players and coaches on and off the field; and,
 
WHEREAS, in his tenure as a linebacker with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Larry Foote  started 80 straight games, including two Super Bowls,  and has posted a career record to date of 355 tackles, 16 and a half sacks, 3 interceptions and 8 forced fumbles ; and,                            
 
WHEREAS, Larry Foote's achievements off the field have been even more remarkable than his football feats as he has dedicated his life to improving the lives of others; and,
 
WHEREAS, beginning with his deep concern for children in his hometown of Detroit, Larry brought his faith, courage and compassion to the children of Pittsburgh, volunteering with Tree of Hope where he has been instrumental in providing a Christmas for children who had lost fathers to violence and to prison, becoming a mentor and role model; and,
 
WHEREAS, Larry Foote mentored, encouraged , supported and counseled the youths from Schuman Center of Allegheny and the CISP Program of Allegheny County; and,
 
WHEREAS, Larry Foote will be returning to Pittsburgh, to the Pittsburgh Steelers and to his volunteer and humanitarian activities at the Tree of Hope and to the "Welcome Back to Pittsburgh , Larry" on May 7, 2010 ;and,
