WHEREAS, Janice Casey, a mother of 2 and grandmother of 4, has worked for the City of Pittsburgh for 31 years and recently retired from her position as Secretary on April 30, 2010; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Casey was initially hired by the City of Pittsburgh on January 2, 1979, where she worked in several departments before settling in the office of the Commission of Human Relations in April of 1980, which studies and investigates complaints of alleged discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations and civil rights practices involving City employees; and,
WHEREAS, in her function at the office of the Commission of Human Relations, Ms. Casey was the first person to encounter individuals seeking to file complaints of discrimination, serving in what was essentially the frontline to emotionally charged cases involving aggrieved individuals that sometimes came in angry or crying, with Ms. Casey going above and beyond her duties to also serve in a comforting role;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Janice Casey for her years of service to the City of Pittsburgh, and does hereby congratulate Ms. Casey on her retirement.
