Body
Whereas, the history of the Pennsylvania Brewing Company (Penn Brewery) began with Tom Pastorius' great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather, Franz Daniel Pastorius, an early German-American who had studied at five European universities, earned a Doctor of Laws degree, wrote many books and more than 2,000 poems, and could read, write, and speak seven languages; and

Whereas, Franz Daniel Pastorius, a friend of William Penn, led the first group of German settlers to America in 1683, founded Germantown, Pennsylvania, and dined frequently with William Penn, enjoying the beer brewed in Penn's brewery at Pennsbury Manor; and

Whereas, having lived in Germany for twelve years and with that kind of family history, what else could Tom and Marybeth Pastorius do but establish the Pennsylvania Brewing Company in 1986, committed to brewing authentic German beers, and located in the former Eberhardt and Ober Brewery on Vinial Street in Deutschtown by Troy Hill, East Allegheny, and Spring Garden, where beer has been made since 1848; and

WHEREAS, using only the more flavorful “two-row” barley, pure water, and exacting weights and measures, and changing the temperature of the mash several times during the two to three hours of mixing to give the beer complex flavors and body, among other precision processes, Penn Brewery produces delightful, smooth, mellow beers, without preservatives to dim the flavor; and

Whereas, after a bit of a waylaying adventure beginning in 2003, Penn Brewery is brewing in Pittsburgh again, and the restaurant will be reopening this week;
