Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and thanks Silk Screen for organizing the annual Film Festival and for providing year round education and entertainment to the Pittsburgh region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 7-16, 2010, “Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the 5th annual Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival will be held May 7-16, 2010 across three theaters: the Regent Square Theater, the Harris Theater and the Melwood Screening Room; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's festival will feature films representing Iran, Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, Korea, China, Japan and the Philippines; and
 
WHEREAS, Silk Screen began with a Film Festival in 2005 that expanded to year round programming of Asian arts including cultural education for K-12 students, New Year's celebrations, diversity awareness events, film series presentations, music and dance performances; and
 
WHEREAS, the week of the Film Festival will feature a Red Carpet Gala with premiere Asian entertainers and exotic dishes from India, Korea and Japan; and
 
WHEREAS, the mission of Silk Screen is to celebrate diversity and multi-cultural appreciation of the Asian and Asian American experience through cultural events.
