Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor the memory of all of the fallen police officers in the state of Pennsylvania during National Police Week and commend those officers who are still willing to give their life to protect and serve; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 4, 2010, to be “the day we honor the Police Officers we lost and our appreciation for the sacrifices made” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the week of May 9 through May 15, 2010 has been designated as "National Police Week" in the state of Pennsylvania in order to honor the memory of the hundreds of police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty; and,
 
WHEREAS, every day across the City of Pittsburgh, police officers bravely and courageously risk their lives to protect and serve their communities and preserve the peace and order to which every citizen in the city is entitled  ; and,
 
WHEREAS, three police officers in the City of Pittsburgh have made the ultimate sacrifice in the past year and 57 police officers have lost their lives since the inception of the Pittsburgh Police Department now referred to as the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police; and,
 
WHEREAS, approximately 726 police officers have made the ultimate sacrifice since the beginning of law enforcement within the state of Pennsylvania ; and,    
 
WHEREAS, we join with the families, friends, colleagues and neighbors of these fallen heroes to mourn their losses and celebrate their memories; and,
