Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Doreen Weiss and Sherry Hazuda and all of the staff and volunteers of Psalm 119 Ministries; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 27, 2010, to be “Psalm 119 Ministries Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Psalm 119 Ministries is a faith-based, non-profit organization founded by Doreen Weiss to offer help, hope and healing to women who are spiritually, physically and/or emotionally at risk in the community; and,

WHEREAS, under the direction of Executive Director Doreen Weiss and President Sherry Hazuda, Psalm 119 Ministries provides counseling services for women in or at risk of Domestic Violence, Abuse, Addiction, Depression and Anxiety; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to counseling, in some cases, Psalm 119 Ministries provides food and shelter for women while going through life-skills training which includes career guidance and job search programs enabling women to become more self sufficient and in a span of 3 years this program has helped twelve women move into independent living situations; and,

WHEREAS, in 2007, Psalm 119 Ministries opened a food pantry at the Three Rivers Grace Community Church and has helped approximately 130 women and their children receive necessary food staples, toiletries, and other products along with bus tickets for transportation to job interviews and doctors appointments and of these women, about 50 have benefited from individual counseling and/or weekly support groups; and,

WHEREAS, in August of 2009, Psalm 119 Ministries moved to their permanent location at 1535 Broadway, which consists of a warm inviting lobby, cozy waiting room, two counseling rooms, space for the food bank, a large conference room, prayer and meditation room with a library giving women in crisis an avenue to heal their hearts, renew their minds and give their lives focus and direction; and,
