WHEREAS, we recognize Brashear High School sophomore Godwin Nyama who made history by becoming the first City League wrestler ever to win a title at the Allegheny County High School Wrestling Championships which were held at Fox Chapel High School in January, 2010; and,
WHEREAS, also at the championships, Godwin was chosen as the recipient of the Brotherhood of Wrestling Award; an award only given to one wrestler, which was begun by the late Mr. Ron Garrison, an historian of WPIAL Wrestling; and,
WHEREAS, Godwin was chosen for this prestigious award because of his excellence in wrestling and his display of sportsmanship throughout the tournament; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to making history, Godwin Nyama is a four time City League Individual Champion in the years '07, '08, '09 and 2010 he placed at the Steve Deaugustino Holiday Classic in '06, '07 and 2008; was an Allegheny County Championships place winner in '07, '08 and 2009 and was Team Captain during the 2008-09 season; and,
WHEREAS, Godwin focuses on being "all that he can be" as a wrestler and he hopes to wrestle for the University of Pittsburgh where he would like to study medicine and become a doctor; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Godwin Nyama for his accomplishments in the sport of wrestling and wish Godwin the best of luck in his future endeavors; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 27, 2010, to be "Godwin Nyama Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
