Title: Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate his 10 year pastoral anniversary and commend Rev. Dr. Eugene M. Downing, Jr. for his commitment to the ministry, and his relentless dedication to our communities; and Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim April 25, 2010, to be designated, “Rev. Dr. Eugene M. Downing, Jr.” day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Eugene M. Downing, Jr., born to the late Eugene M. Downing, Sr. and Everene Downing, was raised and educated in the Garden State of New Jersey. Pastor Downing received his post degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, in the summer following Rev. Downing's junior year at 'A&T' he answered and accepted his call to the ministry. With guidance and faith Pastor Downing preached his initial sermon in Mount Holly, New Jersey where the Reverend Fernando Downs is Pastor, and
 
WHEREAS, after graduating from North Carolina 'A&T', Rev. Downing enrolled in the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union.  On the first Sunday of January in 2002 he would then preach at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church, which is located in the East End section of the City of Pittsburgh. Pastor Downing was then installed April 30, 2000 as the 11th Pastor of the Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church; and
 
WHEREAS,      since in Pittsburgh, Pastor Downing has become involved in the East End Baptist Fellowship, the Pittsburgh Baptist Association, Point Park College Advisory Board, Allegheny Conference on Community Development and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary's Doctor of Ministry Program.
