Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the 10th anniversary of La Escuelita Arcoiris and thanks the school for providing second language education to Pittsburgh's young children; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 1, 2010, “Salsita! Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on May 1, 2010, La Escuelita Arcoiris will celebrate its 10th anniversary through "Salsita!," an evening of tapas, sangria, and salsa at the Grey Box Theater in Lawrenceville; and
 
WHEREAS, the celebration includes the band Noel Quintana's Latin Crew, a local DJ, dance tips from Salsa Pittsburgh, and a silent auction; and
 
WHEREAS, there will be a salsa tasting contest with entries from several local restaurants that will be judged by local celebrities with the winner receiving the "Golden Molcajete;" and
 
WHEREAS, La Escuelita Arcoiris is a school dedicated to providing superior education through immersion in the Spanish language by expanding children intellectually, emotionally and culturally; and
 
WHEREAS, founded by Megan Rooney in her home in 1999, the school began with five children, two rooms and backyard, and now serves about 45 families per year; and
 
WHEREAS, La Escuelita Arcoiris is located in Squirrel Hill and educates children from the ages of 18 months to five years with year round preschool classrooms, kindergarten, an after school program and summer camps for elementary students.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 1, 2010, "Salsita! Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
