Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the 50th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, and does declare this week to be “Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO represents 900,000 workers from 51 International Unions, and 1,422 Locals in all of Pennsylvania's 67 counties; and
WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO seeks the fulfillment of the hopes and aspirations of working people through democratic processes within the framework of our constitutional government in a manner consistent with our institutions and traditions; and
WHEREAS, the beginnings of the American Federation of Labor (AFL) took shape in 1881 right here in Pittsburgh, at Turner Hall, Downtown; and it was also here that the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) was molded in 1938 at the Islam Grotto on the North Side; and
 
WHEREAS, this year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, and the convention is right here in Pittsburgh this week;
