WHEREAS, Dr. Gary Anthony Cuccia is a local chiropractor, owning a practice with his wife Johanna since 1995; and
WHEREAS, after the brutal death of daughter Demi Brae Cuccia in 2007 at the hands of her former boyfriend on the day after her 16th birthday, Dr. and Mrs. Cuccia started the Demi Brae Cuccia Awareness Organization with the intent of raising awareness about Teen Dating Violence, and to seek passage of legislation to mandate the teaching of this subject; and
WHEREAS, at the prompting of Dr. & Mrs. Cuccia and daughter Alexa, the Honorable H. Scott Conklin, State Representative from Centre County, introduced House Bill 2026, to be known as the Demi Brae Cuccia Law, which passed on March 16, 2010, into the State Senate; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Cuccia, in an honest zealotry borne of his grief, has taken to speaking publicly and most valiantly and cogently about this topic, in the acronym which is his daughter's name, Devoted to Educate to Mentor to Inform;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, in sincere and heartfelt appreciation, sympathy, and solidarity, Dr. Gary Anthony Cuccia, Mrs. Johanna S. Cuccia, Demi's siblings Jake, Steve, Saige, and Alexa, and the Board of Directors of the Demi Brae Cuccia Awareness Organization, for encouraging, endorsing, and supporting widespread knowledge and understanding of Teen Dating Violence.
