Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Family Resources of PA for their active and successful efforts to protect children; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 27, 2010, to be “FAMILY RESOURCES OF PA DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and encourage individuals and communities to support children and families; and,
 
WHEREAS, the mission of Family Resources of PA is to prevent and treat child abuse by strengthening families and neighborhoods and their aim is to reduce the prevalence of child abuse in Western Pennsylvania by providing innovative and comprehensive services that change public behavior and policy and intervene with families at risk; and,                            
 
WHEREAS, Family Resources achieved their vision by expanding their capacity to prevent and treat child abuse through in-home family unification services in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties, a supervised visitation program for families referred by Family Court and a community based initiatives program that helps strengthen families and neighborhoods; and,
 
WHEREAS, Family Resources will honor those in the community who work together to make children safe with a special dinner followed by a program hosted by Peggy Finnegan, Michael Donnelly, Sally Wiggin and Andrew Stockey on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at the Westin Convention Center ; and,
 
WHEREAS, Family Resources will honor Dave Short with the Humble Champion Award, Allison Kroll with the Community Service Award and will  recognize the Casey Family Programs and Allegheny County Department of  Human Services with the Children First Prevention Award and the Office of Community Services of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services with the Blue Ribbon Award; and,
