WHEREAS, The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) is a congressionally chartered veterans' service organization that has developed a unique expertise on many issues relating to the special needs of its members--veterans of the armed services who have experienced spinal cord injury or dysfunction; and
WHEREAS, The Keystone PVA, founded in 1960, is one of 34 chartered chapters of the Paralyzed Veterans of America in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Keystone PVA is the leading advocate locally for: quality health care for its members; research and education addressing spinal cord injury and dysfunction; benefits available as a result of its members' military service; and civil rights and opportunities which maximize the independence of its members; and
WHEREAS, April 11-17, 2010, is recognized nation-wide as Paralyzed Veterans Awareness Week; and
WHEREAS, the Keystone PVA will be the host chapter of the 31st Annual National Wheelchair Games to be held in Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh region in August 2011.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes the Paralyzed Veteran's of America for upholding the commitment to improving the quality of life and protecting the rights of paralyzed veterans; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 11- 17, 2010, Paralyzed Veterans Awareness Week in the City of Pittsburgh.
