Title: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does, hereby, congratulate and commend Captain James Dolan for his 42 years of dedicated service with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and wish him a safe, healthy and restful retirement. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does, hereby, declare, Tuesday, March 30, 2010 to be “Captain James Dolan Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on June 20, 1968, a young man became a Pittsburgh Firefighter, following in the footsteps of his father, and Tuesday, March 30, 2010, marks the end of this era, in the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, as Captain James Dolan will retire after 42 years of service; and
WHEREAS, for 33 of his 42 years of service, Captain Dolan has served as a Captain, most recently, at Truck Company #24, on the City's South Side; and
WHEREAS, Captain Dolan, has served as a member of the Executive Board of I.A.F.F. Local #1, for 20 years and during that time he served as a member of the Contract/Arbitration Team and as the Union's Workers Compensation Coordinator;  and
WHEREAS, while serving the Union, Captain Dolan has worked to provide safe working conditions and enrich health care benefits for firefighters; has spent 20 years lobbying in Harrisburg and Washington, D.C., and has helped secure pension benefits for widows and survivors; and
WHEREAS, Captain Dolan spent four days at the site of the September, 8, 1994 crash of U.S. Air Flight #427, where he and other Pittsburgh Fire Fighters voluntarily offered assistance  until the site was locked down by the FBI; and
WHEREAS, for those same 42 years, James Dolan has been married to his lovely, wife Peg, they live in the City's Bon Air neighborhood, and have three children, Michael, Jennifer and Jimmy, who is, also, a Fire Captain with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire; and
