Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Graduate and Professional Student Associations at our local universities for raising the awareness of the important work that graduate and professional students contribute to the community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 5-9, 2010, to be “GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL STUDENT APPRECIATION WEEK ” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The National Association of Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPA) is a national organization representing over 250,000 students from over 40 major universities across the United States and strives to provide resources for graduate student associations, to directly assist students and to advocate on their behalf at the their state and national levels ; and,
 
WHEREAS, each year, NAGPS designates one week as Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week and this year, Carnegie Mellon University will celebrate this week with events and seminars honoring those students who excel in service and teaching; and,                            
 
WHEREAS, there are more than 15,000 graduate and professional students currently studying in the City of Pittsburgh and who are the future teaching professionals, researchers, and leaders of the political , business , cultural and educational institutions of the city, state and country; and,
 
WHEREAS, graduate and professional students have contributed to strengthening the economy through their notable accomplishments and outstanding achievements, distinguishing themselves in their chosen fields; and,
