WHEREAS, Megan Fitzgerald is the manager of Kelly's Bar & Lounge in East Liberty and has had a pivotal role in the success of the establishment by increasing its business and diversifying the staff and clientele; and
WHEREAS, the success of Kelly's has had a direct impact on the revitalization of the East Liberty neighborhood and Ms. Fitzgerald's involvement has been critical to this urban renewal process; and
WHEREAS, for 8 years at Kelly's, Ms. Fitzgerald, "The Mighty Meg F," has been organizing "Ya Dig?," a weekly night of soul music, with a rotating set of DJs including Edgar Um, JMalls, Selecta, Stephan from the Courier, Eric Justin, Omar Abdul, Nice Rec and many more; and
WHEREAS, the music is a classic selection of soul, funk and jazz with DJs playing only vinyl records, usually made prior to 1985; and
WHEREAS, soul music nights are now thriving around the City, with many DJs and music fans crediting Ms. Fitzgerald and "Ya Dig?" for reviving an art form and music genre in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Fitzgerald is the former owner of 720 Records, an independent record store that was located East Liberty and is active in promoting small businesses in the neighborhood.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks Megan Fitzgerald for her years of dedication and commitment to Kelly's Bar & Lounge, the neighborhood of East Liberty, and the music lovers of Pittsburgh; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares March 27, 2010, "'Megan Fitzgerald Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
