WHEREAS, the National Animal Control Association has designated the week of April 11-17, 2010 as Animal Control Appreciation Week; and,
WHEREAS; we would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the outstanding service the City of Pittsburgh Animal Control Department provides on a daily basis to the citizens of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, the duties of the Animal Control Department includes saving the lives of the community by rabies prevention, protecting the welfare of helpless animals and pets that are rescued from injury, disease, and starvation, and the giving of sanctuary to the millions of homeless animals that an uneducated society allows to multiply and then literally throws away on the street like trash; and,
WHEREAS, we would like to recognize Officer Gerald L. Stockton for his thirty-three years of service who has personally picked up over 1600 dogs and over 20,000 cats during his tenure; and,
WHEREAS, we would like to recognize Officer Howard Bryan for his willingness to offer and use his personal creativity which resulted in a department cost savings which was used to upgrade needed equipment; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commends each and every Animal Control Officer for their service and respectfully asks all citizens, Public Safety, Health and Public Service Personnel alike to join in expressing their sincere thanks and appreciation for the many long hours of service these individuals provide throughout the year to assure the safety and welfare of all; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 2 , 2010, to be "Animal Control Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
