WHEREAS, since 1998, through the donation of thousands of cribs, Cribs for Kids has been making an impact on the rates of babies dying of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and accidental suffocation; and
WHEREAS, Celebrate and Share was founded by Bonnie DeCarlo and JoAnn R. Forrester to feature the achievements of women and raise funds for organizations which focus on the needs of women and children in our community; and
WHEREAS, this year's event, the Fifth Annual Women of Achievement Awards, whose honorary Co-Chairs are District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, Jr., and Mary Zappala , will be an evening event honoring 21 women in the Pittsburgh area working in many fields, on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Omni William Penn Ballroom; and
WHEREAS, Cribs for Kids was founded in 1998 by District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, the late Mayor Bob O'Connor, the late Commander Gwen Elliot, and SIDS of PA Executive Director Judith Bannon who works tirelessly to spread the word about reducing SIDS through providing cribs for infants and educating parents about practicing safe sleep for their babies; and
WHEREAS, since Cribs for Kids' inception and the success of its "Back to Sleep" Campaign, the incidence of SIDS has been reduced by 50% in Pennsylvania;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Bonnie DeCarlo, JoAnn Forrester, and Judy Bannon on their dedication to our community, and the babies of Pennsylvania; and it is
RESOLVED FURTHER that the Council hereby declares March 3, 2010, to be "CELEBRATE & SHARE DAY" and "CRIBS FOR KIDS DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
