WHEREAS, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Pittsburgh Chapter, this year is celebrating its third anniversary; and
WHEREAS, CAIR's vision is to be a leading advocate for justice and mutual understanding; and
WHEREAS, CAIR's mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding; and
WHEREAS, CAIR, established in 1994, is America's largest Islamic civil liberties organization, with regional offices nationwide and in Canada; and
WHEREAS, CAIR Pittsburgh celebrates its Third Annual Benefit Banquet "A New Decade of Hope and Challenge - Justice, Tolerance, Service" on Saturday, March 6, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Pittsburgh Hotel Marriot City Center; and
WHEREAS, there is nothing more precious than our civil rights and our freedom;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Pittsburgh Chapter, on its work in our City; and it is
RESOLVED FURTHER that the Council hereby declares March 6, 2010, to be "CAIR Pittsburgh Day of Justice, Tolerance, and Service" in the City of Pittsburgh.
