WHEREAS, America Saves Week will be recognized on February 21-28, 2010; and
WHEREAS, during this week, individuals are encouraged to evaluate the way they save money and find ways to increase their savings; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Saves is an initiative of the Financial Education Consortium of Southwestern Pennsylvania and NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania <http://www.nwwpa.org>; and
WHEREAS, this initiatives seeks to create "Pittsburgh Savers" - individuals who set a savings goal and set aside an amount of money every month until that goal is reached; and
WHEREAS, during America Saves Week, Pittsburgh Saves will take part in more than 15 workshops and events in the Pittsburgh area that will give information on increasing financial literacy, budgeting, banking, decreasing food bills and teaching children about money; and
WHEREAS, these workshops and events are designed to reach a variety of people, including artists, college students, non-profit organizations, small business owners and new homebuyers.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes America Saves Week and thanks the partners of the Pittsburgh Saves initiative for helping residents to become more financially secure; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares February 21-28, 2010, "Pittsburgh Saves Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
