Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Citiparks Community Services for all the work they do for senior residents; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 16, 2010, to be “Citiparks Healthy Active Living Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Citiparks Community Services operates the largest program in the City of Pittsburgh serving the needs of over 60,000 residents at least 60 years of age; managing 15 senior community centers with one of the top nutrition programs in the area servicing 6,000 regular visitors; realizing their mission to provide opportunities for healthy active aging in a safe, quality environment which is evident by the Exemplary status given by the Area Agency on Aging and the Certificates of Achievement in recognition of 100% compliance with Senior Community Center Validation process by the Department of Human Services, Independent Services Bureau for three consecutive years; and,  
WHEREAS, the focus on Healthy Active Living provides complete fitness centers and aquatic recreation throughout the year including the popular Winter and Summer Senior Games with over 690 medals awarded annually and they sponsor Team Pittsburgh in the State Games where Pittsburgh Athletes 60 years and older earned 131 medals versus competition from around the Commonwealth retaining the title: "City of Champions"; and,
WHEREAS, the first Healthy Active Living Expo was held in 2009 and made it the largest event of its type in the city; with the support of over 40 vendors and sponsors the 1,200 in attendance made it one of the biggest and most successful events in the Tri-State area; and,    
WHEREAS, over 600 participants volunteer thousands of hours a year devoted to helping provide programs at the 15 neighborhood centers as well as special events such as "Pittsburgh's Got Talent Extravaganza and Healthy Steps for Older Adults" all of which would ordinarily require the addition of 50 full-time staff people resulting in a cost savings to taxpayers of over $4,500,000 over the past three years; and,
WHEREAS, the Community Enrichment Programs provide intergenerational after-school programs in nutrition, fitness and literacy and their collaborations and successful engagement with over 59 local organizations continues to make Pittsburgh America's Most Livable City for people of all ages; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Citiparks Community Services for all the work they do for senior residents; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 16, 2010, to be "Citiparks Healthy Active Living Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
