Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education for the work they do on behalf of the students in the Pittsburgh Public School District; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 2, 2010, to be “School Board Appreciation Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education is committed to educate all children, to provide support for all students, families, teachers and administrators, and to distribute resources that address the needs of students, parents and the community; and,

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Board of Public Education is an elected body made up of nine representative districts within the City of Pittsburgh and Borough of Mt. Oliver who are elected to four-year terms; these individuals dedicate their services voluntarily; and,

WHEREAS, we recognize Board President Mrs. Theresa Colaizzi, representing District 5 first elected in 2001 who serves as ex-officio member of all committees and Chairperson, Negotiations Committee Liaison Right to Education; Board First Vice President Mr. Thomas Sumpter, representing District 3 first elected 2005, Chairperson Education Committee; and Second Vice President Mr. William Isler, representing District 4, first elected 1999, Delegate to Council of the Great City Schools; and,

WHEREAS, we recognize Dr. Dara Ware Allen, representing District 2 appointed 2009; Mr. Mark Brentley, Sr. representing District 8 first elected 1999, Chairperson of MBE/WBE, Liason to Title I; Mrs. Jean Fink representing District 7 first elected 1976, Chairperson of Personnel Committee and Delegate to Council of Urban Boards of Education; Ms. Sherry Hazuda representing District 6 first elected 2007; Mr. Floyd “Skip” McCrea representing District 9 first elected 2001, Chairperson of Business/Finance Committee and Delegate to Safety; Ms. Sharene Shealey representing District 1 first elected 2009;and,
