Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Bishop Canevin High School during Catholic Schools Week and extend best wishes to Bishop Canevin High School for continued success and prosperity for years to come; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 2, 2010, to be “Canevin Spirit Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Catholic Schools Week is February 1 through February 6, 2010 with the theme “Dividends for Life” which includes, Faith, Knowledge, Discipline, and Morals; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Canevin High School has served Catholic and non-Catholic students in Western Pennsylvania since September, 1959 and is committed to the Christian education of young men and women following the school's mission to prepare students for a life anchored in faith, enriched by learning and enhanced by service to the community; and,

WHEREAS, at Bishop Canevin High School, academic excellence is attained by the integration of faith and values, challenging students to reach their full potential through the development of 21st century skills; and,

WHEREAS, athletics at Bishop Canevin High School are focused on the development of the whole person through teamwork, perseverance and commitment in 25 varsity sports, including many WPIAL and PIAA playoff teams; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Canevin High School has a fine tradition of award winning clubs, organizations and extracurricular programs that promote healthy competition, familiarity with the arts, self-confidence and an understanding of the world and a spirit of service; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Canevin High School has a tradition of outstanding service to the community as students annually provide thousands of hours of service to elementary schools, parishes, youth ministry projects and the larger community; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Canevin High School proudly serves nearly 500 students so well that an average of 98% of graduates from the past 10 years have continued their education; and,
