WHEREAS , the mission of The Jewish Domestic Abuse Task Force of Pittsburgh is to heighten awareness of domestic abuse and violence in the Jewish and secular communities through outreach and education; and,
WHEREAS, The Jewish Domestic Abuse Task Force, formed in 2001 as an initiative of Jewish Women International, is composed of volunteers including professional and lay leaders, participating organizations and partner congregations, who share a commitment to ensure that domestic abuse and violence remains an open and ongoing conversation and is discussed in a variety of contexts including the home, school, synagogue and teen organizations; and,
WHEREAS, since 2001, the JDATF has organized four community wide educational events around teen violence and adult abuse and provided on-going “Lunch and Learn” programs featuring community educators, domestic abuse survivors, law enforcement officials, political representatives, rabbis, counselors, lawyers, emergency room physicians, amongst others ; and,
WHEREAS, the JDATF is overseeing three events during the month of February to recognize the national observance of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week, February 1-7, 2010, during which time there will be a nationwide effort supported by the U.S .House and Senate to bring more public awareness to a problem confronting today's teens; and,
WHEREAS, on February 1, 2010, area experts will begin the conversation as a roundtable discussion on teen dating violence from prevention to legislation. Titled Domestic Violence 2010: Era of Change and moderated by the Honorable David N. Wecht, Administrative Judge of the Family Court Division of the Court of Common Pleas, the program will provide perspectives about the continuum of teen dating abuse and will feature Dr. Gary Cuccia , father of slain Monroeville teen, Demi Cuccia, Detective Denise DeMarco of the Pittsburgh Police Sexual Assault and Family Crisis Unit and State Representative...
