WHEREAS, the Diocese of Pittsburgh established Central Catholic High School in the Oakland neighborhood in 1927; and,

WHEREAS, Central Catholic and its sister school, Oakland Catholic, have educated thousands of outstanding young people that have contributed greatly to the City of Pittsburgh and the broader world, and;
WHEREAS, the Central Catholic Vikings football program has achieved remarkable success over the past several decades, including four PIAA championships, four PIAA runner-up finishes, seven WPIAL championships, and five WPIAL runner-up seasons; and,
WHEREAS, under the leadership of first-year Coach Ryan Lehmeier, the 2023 Vikings finished Tri-County Five Conference play with a 4-0 record, securing their 15th conference championship; and,
WHEREAS, the Vikings finished the 2023 season with an impressive record of 10 wins and two losses, narrowly missing another 6A WPIAL crown despite a hard-fought effort in the championship game against North Allegheny; and,
WHEREAS, the Central Catholic program emphasizes academic success in tandem with athletic achievement, as demonstrated by the 75 team members who earned either honors or high honors in the first academic quarter; and,
WHEREAS, Coach Lehmeier and his staff instill a strong work ethic, competitiveness, and willingness to sacrifice for one's teammates in all their players, attributes that prepare them to thrive not only on the gridiron but in their postgraduate lives; and,
WHEREAS, Central Catholic's track record of success in athletics, academics, and service is a point of great pride for its graduates and many others in our region; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Central Catholic Football for another outstanding season; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Monday, December 18, 2023 to be "2023 Central Catholic Vikings Football Day" in the Cit...
