Title: WHEREAS, Ricky Burgess assumed the office of Council Member of District 9 in 2008 and secured his fourth and final term in 2019. His current terms ends in January, 2024; and,

WHEREAS, Ricky Burgess assumed the office of Council Member of District 9 in 2008 and secured his fourth and final term in 2019. His current terms ends in January, 2024; and,

WHEREAS, during his tenure, he passionately advocated for the rights of low-moderate income people by creating legislation that empowers the community to be a part of the government process; and,

WHEREAS, he has introduced legislation to support affordable housing in Pittsburgh. One such legislation would create the Homewood, East Hills, East Liberty and Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar Protection (HELP) Initiative, which called for the development of an affordable housing protection strategy; and,

WHEREAS, Councilman Rev. Ricky Burgess has also been the Pastor of Nazarene Baptist Church for over 30 years and he has served as a Professor of Communications at Community College of Allegheny County; and,

WHEREAS, Rev Burgess is a member of the Board of Commissioners for the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, where he has worked to establish clean and safe affordable housing for residents. He is also an active Board Member of the Pittsburgh Pastoral Institute, Allegheny Union Baptist Association and Homewood Community Ministries; and,

WHEREAS, Ricky graduated from LaSalle University and earned a Masters from Eastern Michigan University. He also studied at Penn State University and the Pittsburgh Theological University; and,

WHEREAS, he and his wife Carlotta have been married over thirty years and together raised three sons, Richard, John and William, and their daughter Candace; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Council Member Rev. Ricky Burgess and thank him for his service to the City of Pittsburgh and its residents; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, December 12, 2023 to be "Councilman Rev. Ricky Burgess Day" in the City of Pitts...
