Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes and commends Susan Davis for her 30 years of service and dedication in the fields of special education and child advocacy; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares November 17, 2009, “Susan Davis Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Susan Davis is retiring from her position as the director of Every Child, Inc., the non-profit organization she founded in 1997; and
 
WHEREAS, Every Child believes that decisions regarding a child's future should be timely, competent, and result in relationships that meet the holistic needs of the child and that every child no matter their age, race, disability, or special health care need, deserves the opportunity to grow up with a healthy, loving, and lasting family; and
 
WHEREAS, since it began providing services, Every Child has helped to create and preserve families for more than 3,750 children with special needs; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Davis served for 14 years as an agency director of The Rehabilitation Institute's Project Star, an agency focused on adoption of special needs children, and worked for 15 years as a special education teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Davis is the former president of the Family Builders Adoption Network and the Consumer Health Coalition and is a member of several other organizations which focus on children and adoption; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Davis and her work have been recognized through The Goodwill Power of Work Award, the Pittsburgh Business Times' "Women in Business" award, an ABC Primetime special, Calling All Angels, and a film produced by the Dave Thomas Foundation.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares November 17, 2009, "Susan Davis Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
