Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Corey Wagner , Spencer Mellon and Coach Corey O'Connor on their personal and team achievements; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, November 10, 2009, to be “ COREY WAGNER AND SPENCER MELLON DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh is a 4 year High School under the auspices of the Diocese of Pittsburgh and has 850 students reflecting the ethnic, cultural and racial diversity of the Pittsburgh area ; and,
WHEREAS, amongst the myriad of athletic opportunities offered there, Central Catholic High School sponsors Varsity and Junior Varsity Golf Teams, expecting each player to come to the sport with adequate skills to compete and expecting them to dedicate their time to studies and to golf; and,
WHEREAS, the 2009 Central Catholic Golf Team had an overall record of 12-4 and a Section record of 11-2, capturing its third Section 4 Championship in a row. Having never finished lower than 7th in WPIAL competition, the team advanced this year to its third straight WPIAL Team Championship where the team finished 3rd place for the third consecutive year;
WHEREAS, Corey Wagner and Spencer Mellon, residents of Oakmont and friends and golfing buddies since childhood, started on the Golf Varsity Team as freshman, compiling a record of 55 wins and only 10 losses during their 4 years at Central Catholic H.S; and,
WHEREAS, this season, Spencer Mellon set a Central Catholic tryout scoring record while also setting a new school record by playing the first 5 matches at a combined 2 under par. Spencer finished the year with a second all time 36.6 scoring average and finished 5th in the WPIAL Individual Championships; and,
WHEREAS, Corey Wagner set the all time Central Catholic scoring record as a junior
with an average of 37.2, only to shatter his own school record this season by averaging an incredible 36.2 average for nine holes. Corey was the runner up in the WPIAL Individual Championships posting a score of 73 at Butler Country Club; and,
WHEREAS, Corey and Spencer, coached by Head Varsity Golf Coach Corey O'Connor, went on to shoot 78's at the PIAA Western Regional finals to qualify for the Pennsylvania State Champion...
