Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wholeheartedly thanks the Colcom Foundation for its generosity and Family Communications, Inc. for its passion and dedication to children and their families; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, November 17th to be a” Tribute to Children ” dy in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, In order to honor Mr. Fred Rogers and all he did to reach out to children, a longtime friend Cordelia Scaife May, respected philanthropist and late founder of Colcom Foundation, collaborated with Joanne Rogers on the creation of a sculptor in his memory; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Colcom Foundation and Mrs. May donated the funding for this project to Family Communications, Inc., the company created by Fred Rogers; and,
 
WHEREAS, sculptor Robert Berks was called upon to create the bronze sculpture, which in his words is a "summation of how I see Fred Rogers and his perceptive, loving openness to life"; and,
 
WHEREAS, the bronze sculptor, standing 10-feet, 10-inches high and weighing 7,000 pounds,  will be displayed at a unique site facing Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle, this will include a visitor's platform and park perimeter titled "Tribute to Children"; and,
 
WHEREAS, Family Communications, Inc. will donate the "Tribute to Children" site to the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County on November 5, 2009 in honor of children and the enduring values of Fred Rogers; and,
