• Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the Extra Mile Education Foundation's 20th anniversary and thanks the Foundation for its work in educating Pittsburgh's youth; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares November 9, 2009, “Extra Mile Foundation Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on November 9, 2009, the Extra Mile Education Foundation will hold a program and reception celebrating the 20^th anniversary of the institution's founding; and

WHEREAS, Extra Mile supports the education of children in select Pittsburgh parochial elementary schools; and

WHEREAS, Extra Mile sustains these schools for communities by supplementing the financial commitments of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, the schools, and the parents and families of the children; and

WHEREAS, in the schools supported by Extra Mile, no students that have graduated from the eighth grade have had to repeat the ninth grade; and

WHEREAS, ninety-six percent of students from schools supported by the Extra Mile Education Foundation have graduated from high school and eighty-eight percent of those student have continued learning in college, trade school, or the military.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the Extra Mile Education Foundation's 20^th anniversary and thanks the Foundation for its work in educating Pittsburgh's youth; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares November 9, 2009, "Extra Mile Foundation Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
