Title: Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Senator Jim Ferlo for his commitment and relentless dedication to the communities of the City of Pittsburgh; and Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim November 6, 2009, to be designated, “Jim Ferlo” day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, State Senator Jim Ferlo is a Democrat from Highland Park representing the 38th State Senate District. He formerly served as a member of Pittsburgh Council from 1988 to 2003, two terms of which he presided as Council President, and was the last member elected at large prior to the District Council change; and
WHEREAS, Senator Ferlo has fought for progressive legislation on equal rights for the GLBT community, just compensation for exonerated citizens who have been unjustly incarcerated, and strengthening the crimes code against hate crimes; and
 
WHEREAS, he is an active proponent of community and economic development programs such as the Larimer Community Plan, Main Street, Elm Street, the creation of enterprise zones, and programs which provide resources to community-based urban and small town renewal; and
WHEREAS, currently, Senator Ferlo is Minority Chair of the Senate Finance Committee and serves on several Committees of the Senate, such as Local Government, Community and Economic Development, Urban Affairs and Housing, among others.
