WHEREAS, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - As West End Pulaski Lodge 1052 is in their 100th year of existence, celebrating their anniversary on October 18th with a banquet at the Radisson Hotel in Greentree; and,
WHEREAS, the PNA was formed in 1880 in Philadelphia, PA and Chicago, Illinois in order to unite the Polish immigrant community to the mainstreams of American society and from the early 1890s forward, the PNA has strived to enlighten the members of the Polish population about their heritage and their citizen rights and obligations as Americans; and,
WHEREAS, The Polish National Alliance of the United States of North America, popularly known today as the PNA or the Alliance, is the largest of all ethnically-based fraternal insurance benefit societies in this country; and,
WHEREAS, the PNA also provides additional benefits such as sports and youth programs, children's Christmas parties and Easter egg hunts and college scholarship program to name a few; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend current President Val Pawlos and members of PNA for their commitment to the betterment of the polish community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulates the West End Lodge 1052 for 100 years and declares Tuesday, October 6 , 2009, to be "Polish Day " in the City of Pittsburgh.
