WHEREAS, Dr. Cyril Wecht , born to immigrant parents, raised in the Hill District of the City of Pittsburgh and educated in Pittsburgh public schools, rose to national prominence through his distinguished careers in medicine, law, politics and government ; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Cyril Wecht built a prominent career in medicine and forensics, having served as the Allegheny County Coroner where he revolutionized the operation of the Coroner's Office by creating significant upgrades in the professionalism and technology of the office; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Wecht is an internationally renowned expert in forensic pathology and became a notable media figure through his consultations on celebrity deaths that included Robert Kennedy, Sharon Tate, Elvis Presley, Jon Benet Ramsey, Sunny Von Bulow, Laci Peterson and Anna Nicole Smith ;and,
WHEREAS, in the fall of 2000, Duquesne University School of Law established the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law which offers graduate degrees and professional certification in forensic science to a diverse group of students from all disciplines; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Wecht had an illustrious career in politics, having served as the elected Allegheny County Coroner, Allegheny County Commissioner and the Chairman of the Allegheny County Democratic Party, all during years of transition and growth ; and,
WHEREAS, the Allegheny County Council has passed and enacted a resolution naming the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's primary laboratory to now be known as the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Cyril Wecht is a proud husband, father and grandfather of wife
