Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the parishioners, friends and supporters of St. George Orthodox Church for their dedication to the faith and the community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 6, 2009, to be “St. George of Bridgeville Da ” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, St. George Orthodox Church, located in Bridgeville, was formed in 1920 when the first immigrants from Syria arrived in Bridgeville; and,
 
WHEREAS, St. George Orthodox Church started in a converted blacksmith shop which served the community for 25 years until a group of dedicated members purchased a small lot in 1947, where the present facility is located. Years later, the house next door was purchased and is now the educational center for the church school; and,
 
WHEREAS, St George Orthodox Church is based in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ currently 125 families strong with a 15 member choir who sing in traditional a capella; and,
 
WHEREAS, St. George Orthodox Church is expanding and building a new church and community center to serve the population of South Fayette/Bridgeville and the surrounding areas; and,
 
WHEREAS, St. George Orthodox Church in Bridgeville hosts an award winning annual food festival featuring Mediterranean food in order to benefit the church building fund; this year to be held October 2nd through the 4th, 2009; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the parishioners, friends and supporters of St. George Orthodox Church for their dedication to the faith and the community; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 6, 2009, to be "St. George of Bridgeville Da " in the City of Pittsburgh.
