Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Allderdice Alumni Association for creating a Hall of Fame in which inductees' photos and bios will be displayed in the high school and further congratulates the inductees on lifetime achievements and dedication to Allderdice High School; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, September 24, 2009, to be “ALLDERDICE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, formerly known as Taylor Allderdice High School, is the largest of the Pittsburgh Public School's eleven urban high schools, recognized as one of the top seven schools in the region by Newsweek Magazine and whose motto is “Know Something, Do Something, Be Something”; and,

WHEREAS, Allderdice High School has an active Alumni Association, dedicated to preserving the traditions and memories associated with being a graduate of the school which was opened in 1927 and named after industrialist and School Board Member Taylor Allderdice; and,

WHEREAS, the Taylor Allderdice Alumni Association is proud to announce the First Annual Taylor Allderdice Hall of Fame Awards to be held September 24, 2009, to honor and recognize six distinguished alumni chosen by a nine member committee for the first Hall of Fame Class ; and,

WHEREAS, the first six inductees, chosen for excellence in their professions, include:

MYRON COPE, Class of 1947 - Steelers Broadcaster, member of the National Radio Hall of Fame and award winning writer, being inducted posthumously

DR. BERNARD FISHER, Class of 1936 - Pioneer in the biology and treatment of breast cancer

HEBERT DOUGLAS, Class of 1940 - Bronze Medalist in the 1948 Olympics in the long jump and successful businessman

IRIS RAINER DART, Class of 1962 - Popular author of nine books, including the New York Times best seller, “Beaches”

ROBERT GEMINDER, Class of 1953 - Holocaust survivor and speaker, electrical engineer and teacher
