Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby commend and congratulate Peter on his service to the City of Pittsburgh and does hereby declare September 8, 2009, to be “Peter Soergel Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Peter Soergel was born January 10, 1969, in Prince George County, Maryland to Kenneth P. Soergel and Jean P. Soergel; and
 
WHEREAS, Peter is now the loving husband to wife Linda Soergel, and proud father of their five children, Miriya, Charles, Thomas, Gwenhwyvar, and Sharon; and
 
WHEREAS, Peter has bravely served in the military for 22 years, notably fighting in Enduring Iraqi Freedom in 2008-2009; and
 
WHEREAS, artillery was Peter's specialty in the Army, until 2000 when he became a firefighter for the Air Force; and
 
WHEREAS, in addition to his military service, Peter has honorably served the City of Pittsburgh as a firefighter for the last 10 years and plays the bagpipes for many funerals for military members with Patriot Guard Riders and the Pittsburgh Firefighters' Memorial Pipe Band; and
 
WHEREAS, Peter continues to give back to his community, serving as Assistant Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, where he coordinates the ropes course for the Boy Scout camp and provides positive guidance and inspiration for the young men; and
 
WHEREAS, Peter and his family have lived in the Summer Hill neighborhood since 2001, where he maintains a reputation as an outstanding neighbor and citizen who is always there to lend a hand;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby commend and congratulate Peter on his service to the City of Pittsburgh and does hereby declare September 8, 2009, to be "Peter Soergel Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
