Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Pittsburgh Allderdice High School's World Language Department; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 1, 2009 , to be “ALLDERDICE WORLD LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, the largest of the Pittsburgh Public Schools' ten urban high schools, has drawn  students from nine diverse communities and offers academic programs at the gifted, scholars and standard academic levels, complemented by a full range of interscholastic, intramural and co-curricular clubs ; and,
WHEREAS, Taylor Allderdice High School has had a long and distinguished record of being amongst the top high schools in the country, having consistently secured Middles States Association accreditation and the Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education; and,                            
WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania State Modern Language Association is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the learning of languages and cultures from kindergarten through university levels; and,
WHEREAS ,the PSMLA awards its Golden Globe Award which represents the highest level of program development that supports  standard-based world language instruction. Schools with Golden Globe programs provide extended, well-articulated world language instruction and have highly qualified teachers who provide performance-based activities and assessments that enable students to attain and exceed world language standards; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School is the proud recipient of the 2009 PSMLA Golden Globe Award for its rigorous world language curriculum and for meeting the criteria associated with outstanding instruction and resources offered to its world language students; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School has won the PSMLA's Silver Globe
Award in 2005 and a Golden Globe Award in 2007 prior to receiving this most distinguished and revered designation for 2009 and recognizes Elie Covert, Ted Denlinger, David Ghogomu, Mina Levinson, Sharon Mellinger, Anne Marie Morsi, Susan Orth, Jeannette Schubert, Ying-Ying Shih, Eileen Swazuk, Isabel de Valdivia, and Mary Ann Vignovich for their years of leadership and hard work to achieve these esteemed and distinguished awards; and,
