Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta Board of Directors and ISM-USA on their astounding success in catalyzing the coming together of the city in celebration of one of our greatest regional assets and commemoration of our nation's most important day.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta was introduced to the region more than thirty years ago and, held annually since its inaugural run, has since become the largest inland regatta in the nation and the biggest venue on the powerboat racing circuit, bringing powerboat and jet ski races, live music, and myriad outdoor activities to thousands of spectators each year at Point State Park and the North Shore; and
WHEREAS, the Three Rivers Regatta has evolved into a beloved Pittsburgh tradition, moving from August to July to serve as the city's official 4th of July celebration for national and international visitors alike in the region's biggest free summertime event; and
WHEREAS, for the past two years, the Three Rivers Regatta has been under management by ISM/USA, a local marketing firm with a national reputation, and this year's EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta featured fireworks from Pyrotecnico of Western Pennsylvania, highlighting successful business ventures from across the state; and
WHEREAS, the 32nd annual Three Rivers Regatta, held between July 3rd and 5th of 2009, featured world class water, air, and land entertainment including TNT freestyle motocross performers, national jet ski champion Eric Malone, freestyle mountain bike champion Mike Steidly, more than twenty original concert acts, and the first-ever high wire walk across the Allegheny River, and welcomed the largest audience to date with over half a million attendees; and
WHEREAS, the final day of the 2009 Three Rivers Regatta featured completely “green” programming when traditional motorized racing was replaced with a concert, Frisbee dog show, tournament fishing, Dragon Boat Races, and kayak lessons, echoing the eco-friendly efforts of the city;
