WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust was created to stimulate the economic development of Pittsburgh through the development and promotion of a downtown arts and entertainment district, working through a public/ private partnership that transformed a derelict section of Pittsburgh into an urban hub for arts and culture ; and,
WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust was created in 1984 as both an arts agency and a real estate and economic development catalyst to realize a fuller version of a cultural district in order to reverse the economic downtown in the region through the arts; and,
WHEREAS, the dream of a cultural district and a Cultural Trust was first articulated by H.J. “Jack” Heinz, who as an arts lover and Chairman of the H.J. Heinz Company, gathered his band of dreamers to create an urban cultural district that could contribute to the vitality of downtown and the quality of life in the region ; and,
WHEREAS, inspired by the remarkable foresight of the Trust's Founders, Jack Heinz, Allen H. Berkman, Carol R. Brown, the Honorable Richard Caliguiri,, Douglas D. Danforth, Robert Dickey III, the Honorable Thomas J. forester, Paul R. Jenkins, the Honorable Justin M. Johnson, Robert B. Pease, Ingrid S. Rea, William H. Rea, L. Stanton Williams, and Alfred W. Wishart, Jr., The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust created a plan which breathed life back into Pittsburgh and has resulted in over fourteen cultural facilities anchored by Heinz Hall and the Convention Center and includes public parks, plazas and public open spaces, streetscaping programs, façade restoration, and arts projects ; and,
WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will mark its 25th Anniversary by celebrating its past, present and future with a party on Friday, July 25, 2009, and will honor its Heroes led by the Honorable H. John Heinz III and the Heinz Family and its Founders; and,
