Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Rev. Cash for his leadership and dedication to Wesley Church, and his outstanding contributions to the Hill District community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council declares Saturday July 11, 2009 “Reverend Calvin Cash Day” in the City of Pittsburgh and presents Rev. Cash with a key to the City.

WHEREAS Rev. Calvin Cash has served as the Pastor of John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church in the Hill District since 1996 and is currently the Presiding Elder Emeritus of the Allegheny Conference A.M.E. Zion Church; and
 
WHEREAS early in his pastorate of Wesley Church, Pastor Cash, along with six other Hill District Pastors founded Clergy and Churches United, a faith based social service collaborative that aims to empower Hill District residents through outreach, spiritual development, supportive services, and collective programming; and
 
WHEREAS his ministry involvement has taken him to Haiti numerous times for mission trips, assisting in the building of schools and other acts of ministry; and
 
WHEREAS Rev. Cash spearheaded Wesley Church's innovative collaboration with the Department of Environmental Protection to create a sustainable geothermal heating and cooling system that uses mine water to heat and cool the church; and
 
WHEREAS Rev. Cash has been married to his wife Dorothy for 61 years, with whom he has six children; and
 
WHEREAS the Home Mission Department of the Allegheny Conference A.M.E. Zion Church will be honoring Rev. Cash at an event on July 11, 2009.
