Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby join its people, the Lawrenceville Historical Society, and the Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association in recognizing the many accomplishments of Stephen Foster and his place of birth; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Saturday, July 11, 2009 to be “Stephen Foster Doo Dah Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, Pittsburgh is a city whose history cannot be adequately told without mention of its musicians, artists, and songwriters; and,
 
Whereas, the city and its people continue to applaud, encourage, and develop its musical richness and renown; and,
 
Whereas, Lawrenceville proudly remembers and celebrates one of its past residents, Stephen Foster; and,
 
Whereas, Foster is often considered a founder of pop music, and is the only composer to have written two state songs, Kentucky's "My Old Kentucky Home" and Florida's "Old Folks at Home ('Swanee River')"; and,
 
Whereas, the Lawrenceville Historical Society and Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association, wishes to organize and present the 2009 Stephen Foster Music and Heritage Festival, otherwise known as Doo Dah Days!; and,
 
Whereas, Doo Dah Days is an event which honors the life and music of Stephen Foster, one of America's most inspiring and significant songwriters; and,
 
Whereas, the festival will occur in celebration of Foster's birthday, which is on July 4th;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby join its people, the Lawrenceville Historical Society, and the Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association in recognizing the many accomplishments of Stephen Foster and his place of birth; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Saturday, July 11, 2009 to be "Stephen Foster Doo Dah Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
