Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Jewish National Fund Western PA Region for their remarkable work on behalf of the State of Israel and for recognizing Marian Ungar Davis for her dedication and devotion to the Jewish community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, June 22, 2009, to be “MARIAN UNGAR DAVIS DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS , the Jewish National Fund is a non-profit corporation founded in 1901 to buy and develop land in Israel for Jewish settlement and has evolved into a global environmental leader by planting over 240 millions trees, building over 200 reservoirs and dams, developing over 250,000 acres of land, creating 1000 parks, providing the infrastructure for over 1000 communities, bringing life to the Negev Dessert and educating students around the world about Israel and the environment ; and,

WHEREAS, the Jewish National Fund Western PA Region covers the Pittsburgh area, State College, Erie and West Virginia and works to preserve the mission to be the caretaker of the land of Israel, on behalf of its owners….Jewish people everywhere; and,

WHEREAS, the Jewish National Fund's Guardian of Israel Award best exemplifies the highest standard of devotion and service to the Jewish community and the State of Israel; and,

WHEREAS, the Jewish National Fund Western PA Region will honor Marian Ungar Davis with the Guardian of Israel Award at a reception on Monday , June 22, 2009, at Congregation Beth Shalom; and,

WHEREAS, Marian Ungar Davis, a committed and talented community leader, will receive the Guardian of Israel Award in recognition of her dedication and commitment to her family, our community, Judaism and the State of Israel through her extensive work with State of Israel Bonds, the Zionist Organization of America, the Schindler Project and Riverview Apartments.
