Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend The Delta Foundation and the Pridefest Committee for their commitment to promote unity and visibility for the GLBT Community and for their diligent work in promoting awareness and support in the Pittsburgh region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 8 - June 14, 2009, to be “PITTSBURGH PRIDE WEEK” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Pridefest Committee and  The Delta Foundation is to produce events that promote unity, visibility, and self-esteem among the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender community of Pittsburgh and to promote awareness, acceptance and equality throughout the Pittsburgh and Tri-State region; and,
WHEREAS, the Pridefest Committee and The Delta Foundation are building on  Pridefest , once just a march organized after the New York City Stonewall Riots of 1969;and,   
WHEREAS, Pridefest was previously a one day event consisting of a parade and a festival in Pittsburgh but this year will be a week long celebration to promote unity within our community by creating Partnered Events; and,
WHEREAS, profits and non-profits such as Highmark BC/BS, Comcast, Google, Starbucks, Planned Parenthood, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Club Pittsburgh, Images, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, Coors Brewing and the City of Pittsburgh have joined together  to sponsor a series of events to provide reasons for everyone to come together and celebrate our differences ; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Pride Week will consist of Pride in the Street, a street party the night before Pridefest, Pridefest which includes a parade and festival , Pride Brunch at Palate Bistro,  An Evening with Singer Me'Shell Ndegeocello, , a live performance by Jennifer Holliday of "Dreamgirls" fame , the Black Pride Film Festival and SPLASH !, a Mt. Washington Pool Party; and,
