Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Amen Corner for recognizing Judge Eugene Strassburger with the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence for his outstanding career and achievement in the field of law and justice; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, May 7, 2009, to be “JUDGE GENE STRASSBURGER DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and,
WHEREAS, the Amen Corner has been honoring members of the Judiciary of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 49 years and for the last six years has honored the memory of Judge Robert E. Dauer with an award in his name for Judicial Leadership and Excellence ; and,
WHEREAS, this year's recipient of the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence is the Honorable Eugene Strassburger, Administrative Judge Civil Division Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Gene Strassburger, a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School served in the City Law Department where he notably won a case in the Untied States Supreme Court eliminating gender segregated want ads; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Strassburger was appointed to the bench in 1978, serving in the Family Division for 15 years, in the Civil Division since 1994, as Calendar Control Judge since 1999 and as Administrative Judge of the Civil Division since 2008; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Strassburger has taught law at the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University and has been the recipient of the Susan B. Anthony Award given by the Women's Bar Association and the Carol Los Mansmann Helping Hand Award presented by the Women in Law Division. Judge Strassburger also sits on numerous Allegheny County Bar Association Committees including the Bench-Bar Conference Planning Committee, the Family Law Section Support Guidelines Sub-Committee, the Civil Litigation Section Court Rules Committee and the Committee on Opportunities for Minorities in the Legal Profession and is a member of the American Law Institute, the PA Conference of Trial Judges, PERSAD, the Women's Center and Shelter of Pittsburgh and the PA Court Appointed Special Advo...
