Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks the Silk Screen Asian-American Film Festival for providing education and entertainment to the Pittsburgh community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 8-17, 2009, “Silk Screen Week” in the City of Pittsburgh

WHEREAS, the 4th annual Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival will be held May 8-17, 2009 across four theaters: the Regent Square Theater, the Harris Theater, the Melwood Screening Room and the Andy Warhol Museum; and
 
WHEREAS, Silk Screen began with a Film Festival in 2005 that expanded to year round programming of Asian arts including cultural education, diversity awareness events, music and dance performances; and
 
WHEREAS, the Film Festival showcases contemporary Asian and Asian-American cinema, features a Red-Carpet Gala fundraiser and offers discussion sessions with prominent filmmakers and actors; and
 
WHEREAS, the mission of Silk Screen is to celebrate diversity and multi-cultural appreciation of the Asian and Asian American experience through cultural events.
