WHEREAS, 91.3fm WYEP is celebrating its 35th anniversary of broadcasting; and
WHEREAS, WYEP had it first studios in the basement at 4 Cable Place in South Oakland and also had studios at Chatham's campus and on East Carson Street before moving into its current location in Beford Square on the South Side; and
WHEREAS, WYEP began with a group of volunteers and has grown to a station with 13 staff members, 200 volunteers and an operating budget of over $1 million; and
WHEREAS, in 1985, WYEP made the difficult to decision to sign off the air in order to begin a reorganization lasted for 22 months and resulted in a new volunteer board, paid staff members and grant money for new equipment; and
WHEREAS, in 2006, the WYEP Community Broadcast Center was completed and celebrated with 2,500 people touring the new facility that received a LEED-NC Silver rating; and
WHEREAS, WYEP is known for its Year in Review booklet, the "Live & Direct" CDs of in-studio performances and its annual "Rock the Block" fundraising event; and
WHEREAS, the mission of WYEP is to give voice to quality music and provocative ideas, fostering an increasingly more vibrant, artistic, diverse and caring community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates 91.3fm WYEP on its 35th anniversary; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares April 22, 2009, "91.3fm WYEP Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
