WHEREAS, the first pastor of the Church of the Resurrection was appointed on May 5th, 1909, thus creating the Church and Parish and on May 25th, 1909 the boundaries of the Parish were established; and
WHEREAS, the first Mass and Church Service was held on May 30th 1909 in the Reed building on Brookline Boulevard, which is now part of F.D. DeBor Funeral Home; and
WHEREAS, the original building structure, which had the Church in the basement, had its corner stone laid on August 19th, 1909 and was completed on May 27th, 1910; and
WHEREAS, Resurrection School was added to the Church in August 1912 and accepted its first 150 students along with five Sisters of Charity; and
WHEREAS, the present and existing Church was completed in 1939 and the school buildings were completed in 1957 and 1965; and
WHEREAS, for the last century, Resurrection Church has and continues to be a strong resource and beacon of strength for the people of Brookline and the surrounding communities;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and honors the Church of the Resurrection for a century of meeting the spiritual and community needs of the thousands of people it has served and continues to serve.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh proclaims that Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 be hereby declared as "Church of the Resurrection Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
