WHEREAS, Prime Stage Theatre has been one of the region's leading theatre companies to address literacy for adolescents, educators and families since its beginning in 1996; and
WHEREAS, the mission of Prime Stage Theatre is to entertain, educate, and enrich families, students, and educators in the discovery of live theatre and literature, which they accomplish this by producing adaptations of literature, new plays, and other works which celebrate the achievements of young people and adults; and
WHEREAS, through educational programs and the Technical Theatre Mentor Program, Prime Stage Theatre provides opportunities for middle and high school students to participate in the creation and presentation of live theatre; and through presenting affordable and accessible productions, Prime Stage Theatre teaches theatrical etiquette and encourages families, students and educators to become life-long patrons of the arts; and as a member of The American Alliance for Theatre and Education, Prime Stage Theatre networks with national and international theatres for young audiences; and
WHEREAS, this semi-professional theatre company takes special pride in its program for commissioning and creating new scripts; and
WHEREAS, Prime Stage Theatre is pleased to be returning this season to present productions at the New Hazlett Theater in District 1 as its “home” theater; and
WHEREAS, from May 2 through 10, 2009, Prime Stage Theatre will be presenting a world premiere adaptation of The Westing Game, at the Hazlett Theatre, designed to entertain audiences, especially young adults, and encourage them to read the book and enjoy the journey of discovering literature through live theatre; and
WHEREAS, Prime Stage Theatre has as its motto “Where literature comes to life”;
