Whereas, the Pittsburgh Gospel Choir (PGC) founded in 2008 by Dr. Herbert V.R.P. Jones. Dr. Jones is nationally known as a key figure in choral conducting and an expert in the area of infusing theology and musical expression. Throughout his careen, Dr. Jones has served as a choral conductor, educator, operatic bass-baritone, liturgical dancer, and pastor. He has performed at venues across the United States and Europe; and
Whereas, the PGC serves as the City of Pittsburgh's first choral ensemble. It is comprised of participants of all ethnicities, ages, and religious background. Part of the mission of the PGC is to preserve the historical integrity of gospel music by performing both traditional and contemporary works within the genre. The PGC currently rehearses at the East Liberty Presbyterian Church; located on the City's East End; and
Whereas, On Saturday, May 9, 2009, the Pittsburgh Gospel Choir will hold a Pre-Mother's Day Concert at the East Liberty Presbyterian Church at 4:00pm.

Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend The Pittsburgh Gospel Choir for its endless contributions to our communities by encouraging the celebration of gospel music; and
Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does herby proclaim Saturday, May 9, 2009 as "Pittsburgh Gospel Choir Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
